Cue the fans! The ice packs! The mopping towels!
Probably the most often referenced “symptoms” of menopause are the hot flashes and night sweats! The terms are interchangeable in my book – same thing, just at different times of the day.
Imagine sitting at the table in a restaurant, with sweat literally POURING down the sides of your face…your hairline drenched like you just got out of the shower…and your boob sweat is leaking through your bra and shirt for the whole world to see…and when you stand up to leave, your chair seat is coated with wetness and the backside of your pants are soaked. No exaggeration there…been there…done that… got the t-shirt.
Luckily for me, my salvation came from an unlikely source – my type-2 diabetes injectable medicine. It made me feel cold all the time. So, I went from sweltering with my own personal blast furnace everywhere I went, to having to wear long sleeves or sweaters and long pants – even in the summer! Talk about your complete 180! The same was true for the night sweats. I used to have to put a beach towel under me and on top of the sheets and I would STILL sweat through everything. Now, I need a comforter every night and sometimes an extra blanket to keep warm. Can you say physiological confusion? But don’t be fooled. These may be the most prevalent “symptoms” but they are by far not the only ones. Stay tuned for more lived experience to see if you can relate!
