Your workplace should be supporting you through menopause — and more companies are starting to get it

Nobody should have to white-knuckle through a hot flash in a boardroom and pretend everything's fine. The "Menopause Works Here" movement is growing — and honestly, it can't grow fast enough. Tag a manager or HR friend who needs to see this. Have you ever wished your workplace handled this better?

Raise your hand if you've ever sat in a meeting, sweating through a hot flash, trying to focus while your brain is running on three hours of sleep - and just said nothing. Because what are you going to say? "Sorry, I'm in perimenopause, and my body is staging a full revolt." Yeah. Most of us have just quietly powered through.

But something is actually shifting in how workplaces are thinking about this. A movement called "Menopause Works Here" has been building momentum, and in 2026, leading companies are starting to treat menopause support the same way they treat parental leave; not as a nice-to-have, but as a serious investment in retaining experienced, talented women at the height of their careers.

And look, this matters. Women in perimenopause and menopause are often at peak professional experience - deep knowledge, leadership capacity, institutional memory. The idea that this is the moment they should quietly struggle, or worse, leave the workforce entirely, is not just unfair. It's bad business.

What does support actually look like? It can be pretty practical: flexible scheduling for appointments, temperature-controlled spaces, access to menopause-trained HR or healthcare resources, and, honestly, just a culture where it's okay to name what's going on without fear of being seen as "less capable." That last one might be the biggest point.

If your workplace doesn't have any of this yet, you're not alone. Most don't. But knowing that there's a growing standard out there is important. You deserve to be supported at work during this transition, not just at home. And if you're a manager or HR professional reading this: the conversation starts with you. Ask your team what they need. You might be surprised how much it means just to be asked.
